searching for the pattern
Friday, 19 August 2005

A journal for the ones who are searching for the pattern: Journal for Patterns Recognised

If you want to know what we need the pattern for, consult the editorial of the above mentioned journal, the movie PI, or cognitive sciences:

"Consider beliefs in essences. Such beliefs greatly help explore the world by prodding them to look for regularities and to seek explanations of variation in terms of underlying patterns. This strategy may help bring order to ordinary circumstances, including those relevant to human survival. But in other circumstances, such as wanting to know what is correct or true for the cosmos at large, such intuitively ingrained concepts and beliefs may hinder more than help." (Douglas L. Meding and Scott Atran, "The Native Mind: Biological Categorization and Reasoning in Development and Across Cultures", in: Psychological Review, 2004, Vol. 111, No 4, p. 963.)

NEUE ALGORITHMEN IM SOMMER 2005
Sunday, 26 June 2005

Workshop in Hailuoto
Saturday, 05 March 2005
Just arrived back from Hailuoto Island in Finnland. Phd students and experts met in the framework of a very well organised workshop. It was the first personal meeting of Kaleidoskope Virtual Doctor School in the topic State-of-Art Technology Enhanced Learning. The main concern seemed to me to be the proper design of methodology based on contemporary theory (e.g. third generation activity theory). Questions like the analitical tools for video-data, right research design, enhancement of collaboration were adressed. It definitely provided me with some new impulses.
